SOPHIE BROWN
Solicitor
Sophie holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Otago and was admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand in May 2022.
She holds a current practising certificate with the Queensland Law Society and is entered in the Register of Practitioners in the High Court of Australia, entitling her to practise as a solicitor in any Federal Court of Australia.
Sophie has experience in all aspects of family law, including property settlements, spousal maintenance, parenting and child safety matters. She has acted in matters involving international family law issues, such as cross-jurisdictional property disputes between Australia and New Zealand and intercountry adoptions.
Since joining Beck Law, Sophie has regularly represented clients in the Magistrates Court in domestic violence and traffic matters, as well as in the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia. In New Zealand, Sophie appeared in the Family Court, District Court, and High Court (on appeal from the Family Court). She was a member of the Family Law Section and served as a lead provider of legal aid.
Sophie is adept in both oral advocacy and mediation and is recognised for her empathetic and client-focused approach. Her primary focus is to resolve matters by agreement, utilising negotiation and mediation wherever possible. She is committed to providing clear, practical advice and supporting her clients through every stage of the legal process.
